Card design has always been a fascination of mine and when Karmina approached me with this project I was ecstatic. They wanted a deck of cards to narrate a story for their new album compilation composed of 4 albums and 11 songs. Each card of the deck would represent a song on the front of the card and for the card's backing incorporate original album artwork illustrated by Madalina Andronic.
I began by sketching out the list of object ideas Karmina provided to represent each song. It quickly became clear that the framing and layout would be as equally important as the key art. Not only is it represented on every card, but it also defined much of the tone.
Once the sketches were approved I illustrated everything on my iPad in Procreate and brought it over to Photoshop to clean up and assemble.
