This was an incredibly fun and fast pace project with The Weather Channel's Spanish team. We were asked to develop a visual brand and graphics package for their morning news program titled Conexion A.M. We pitched a number of ideas and I knew I wanted to contribute one. I prayed for a great idea and what came to me was the idea of mixing classic design from spanish tiles with modern day iconography..
My personal styleframes. 4 of the open and one title card.
One of the big challenges to this project was the timeline and limited resources we had available. My concept was the only approach that involved 3D and I knew i needed a solution in case it was picked. My idea was to keep all the animation in the 3d camera and animated through the environment from a blue weather channel brand into the more white and gold space that is Connexion A.M. I was concerned this might not have enough visual interest once in motion. On the call with the client, they suggested having the tiles animated and immediately I knew that was the missing key.
Jonny Sidlo animated all of the icons and positioning them in after effects to each tile while i setup the 3D scenes and compositing. We were fortunate enough to grab Ted Gore's help for a couple days where he took what i did in the style frames above and leveled it with texture, lighting, and his other sorcery 3D magical ways.
I couldn't be more pleased with how this project turned out. I'm amazed what we were able to accomplish in such a short time. Everyone involved really made this project come to life and I know it's going to be one project that will stand out in my memory with warmness.
